Outcome: Humanitarian stakeholders use an enhanced conceptual framework informed by cross-cultural, interdisciplinary and multi-sectorial perspectives.

Core elements: Select concepts; analyze concepts through a cross-cultural, interdisciplinary and multi-sectorial non-prescriptive approach; confront concept analysis with field realities.

Assessing the need

To ascertain the lack of a conceptual framework, the CERAH team carried out exploratory research which confirmed the above and provided key insights.

Addressing the gap

In order to support a wide community of stakeholders for collaborative decision-making in more complex environments, but also to accompany the impetus for professionalization, it is necessary to develop a critical analysis of core humanitarian concepts.

An innovative research approach

The overall objective of the Humanitarian Encyclopedia is to analyse divergences and commonalities in the conceptualization and uses of central terms applied in humanitarian action or used by humanitarian actors.
